Breakfast

Heat milk and water to lukewarm.
Crumble yeast and mix with 1/2 cup (120 ml) flour.
Stir in the tepid milk and water, mixing well.
Cover and set aside in a warm place until yeast is active and frothing (about 10–15 minutes).
Mix remaining flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Stir beaten egg and melted butter into the yeast mixture, then add the flour mixture and currants and mix well.
Put dough onto a floured surface and knead; return to bowl and let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour).
Turn onto a floured surface and knead again.
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Divide dough into twelve pieces, shape into buns and mark a deep cross on top of each.
Arrange buns on a baking tray, cover with a tea towel and let rise for 30 minutes.
Bake in the preheated oven at 375°F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Mix together plain flour, vegetable oil and golden syrup to make the glaze.
Remove baked buns from the tray and brush or spread with the glaze.
